You might not know, but I have a master’s degree in counseling from Duquesne University and have worked as a therapist for 15 years.
I have recently had clients who have felt alone and without purpose due to loss. These clients have had to deal with defining their lives without a spouse and issues that come with death and dying.
Kubler-Ross has written about this, and developed the 5 stages of grief.
Grief Model Background
· Denial
· Anger
· Bargaining
· Depression
· Acceptance
I have helped my clients through some of these stages and have helped them reestablish their purpose without their spouse.
I had a client who lived in Scotland, and her brother, who lived in Pittsburgh, was dying. I visited him in the hospital and would give his sister updates. When he passed away, I made the funeral arrangements, as she couldn’t travel due to Covid restrictions, and arranged a memorial brunch for his friends. I helped facilitate a call with his sister so each of his friends could express their condolences. She and her friends were very appreciative.
