Caregivers will be able to receive a monthly grant to offset their costs by the end of 2019. This is part of their new Home Caregiving Grant (HCG) which is part of their Caregiver Support Action Plan.
Government officials in Singapore are recognizing caregivers incur out-of-pocket expenses and often have to leave their jobs in order to take care of their elderly parents. The government is also being asked to adopt flex-work arrangements, recognizing people still need to earn an income while taking care of their loved ones.
One government official suggested they build more Senior Activity Centers within walking distance of seniors’ residences. They are looking at customizing programs and increasing male participation as well. The goal of their expansion of services is to help seniors age in place.
