For the past several years, Senior Assistance has been expanding their services.

We currently have two nurse associates, a physical therapy consultant, and several attorneys that work and consult with us on a regular basis.

Our services are now targeted to seniors and their families, family members who are working caregivers, clients who have chronic disabilities, and caregiver support.

We were fortunate enough to obtain a contract with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Pennsylvania to be the patient advocate for their clients.

We are in negotiations with several companies to provide services to their employees who are working caregivers. A number of studies indicate that working caregivers experience more stress and have a higher incidence of illness, absenteeism and tardiness.

Most recently, I was asked to present to a national organization at their conference in Las Vegas. I also recently presented to the Pittsburgh Human Relations Association. The program he presented was “Help For The Working Caregiver: A Win/Win For The Employee As Well As The Company.”

All of the presentations that we give to caregivers are designed to help them understand that they are not alone, and provide them with tools to use to continue to help their families.

Often times we are asked, who is your typical client? The truth of the matter is there is no such thing!

Here is a quick look at some of the clients we have served:

• A woman with moderate dementia in a nursing home. After visits, we report back to her daughter, who lives in California, thus providing her daughter peace of mind.
• A working caregiver who had to take a leave of absence because her husband’s MS was declining. This woman, a corporate vice president, became extremely depressed.
• A woman and her husband who is now a quadriplegic as a result of an automobile accident.
• The daughter of a woman who was in hospice and died. This woman was going to give a majority of her money, along with her condominium, to a care companion who ultimately was financially abusing her.
• A son whose mother was getting poor care in a nursing home.

A large majority of our clients are the caregiver and not the actual client, and a large majority of our clients are not seniors.

As a result we are excited to announce the change of our name to CAREGIVER CHAMPION, LLC., in order to better reflect and encompass the services we offer.Over the next several weeks, we will be changing our name, content on our website, logos, collateral, etc. to more truly reflect the clients we serve.
